Group ‘X’ (Except Education Instructor Trade)
Age : 17- 21 Years
Qualification : 12th/ Intermediate passed or Equivalent examination in any stream/subjects with Mathematics, Physics and English with minimum 50% marks in aggregate and 50% marks in English OR passed Three years Diploma Course in Engineering in any stream
Group ‘X’ (Education Instructor Trade)
Age : 20 – 25 Years
Education Qualification :
(i) BA with English as one the subjects or B.Sc with Physics/ Psychology/ Chemistry/ Mathematics/ IT / Computer Science/ Statistics as one of the subjects or BCA with minimum 50% marks.
(ii) B.Ed degree with minimum of 50% marks from a Government recognized institute.
(iii) Graduation and B.Ed programmes should be recognized by UGC/ NCTE/ Competent accreditation authority.
Age :20 – 28 Years
Education Qualification :
(i) MA in English/ Psychology or M.Sc in Mathematics/ Physics/ Statistics/ Computer Science/ IT or MCA with 50% marks.
(ii) B.Ed degree with minimum of 50% marks from a government recognized institute.
(iii) Graduation, Post-Graduation and B.Ed programmes should be recognized by UGC/ NCTE/ Competent accreditation authority.
Group ‘Y’ (Except Automobile Technician, GTI, IAF (P), IAF(S) and Musician)
Age : 17 – 21 Years
Qualification : 12th / Intermediate passed in any stream/subjects approved by Central/State Education Boards with minimum 50% marks in aggregate and 50% marks in English
Group ‘Y’ (Medical Assistant Trade)
Age : 17- 21 Years
Qualification : Passed 10+2 / Intermediate / equivalent exam with Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English with a minimum of 50% marks in aggregate, and 50% marks in English.
Group ‘Y’ (Musician Trade)
Age :17 – 25 Years
Education Qualification :
Passed Matriculation /10th class or equivalent with minimum pass marks from any Government recognised School/Boards and should be proficient in playing at least one of the following musical instruments: Trumpet / Bass / Violin / Saxophone / Clarinet / Euphonium / Jazz-Drum / Piccolo / Bass Trombone / Key Board / Guitar / Sarod / Viola / Cello / Contra Bass (String Bass).
Note–1: Candidate eligible for Group ‘X’ examination (on the basis of intermediate/10+2) are also eligible for Group Y and would be given an option of appearing in both group X and Group Y exam in one sitting while filling up the online registration form.

Required Physical And Medical Standards for Indian Airforce
To get selected as an Airman, the candidate must be physically and mentally FIT to perform duties in any part of the world, climate and terrain. Physical/Medical Standards to become an Airman are as follows:-

Body Tattoo | Permanent body tattoos are not permitted, however tattoos only on inner face of the fore arms(inside of elbow to the wrist), back(dorsal) part of the hand/reverse side of the palm and Tribals with tattoos which are as per custom Traditions of their tribes may be considered. However, right to decide on acceptability /unacceptability of the individual rests with the Selection Centre. Candidates with permanent body tattoos are to submit two photographs(close up and distinct view) with details of size and type of the Tattoo. |

Selection procedure of indian airforce airmen exam
The selection procedure of the Indian Air Force is little bit rigorous as it expects standard level of knowledge along with the physical fitness. Now a days Indian Air Force focuses on decision making and power of expression also for which Indian Air Force has formulated some of the basic tests also. Let’s understand these tests one by one in detail.
Phase- I : Computer based test (CBT)

Phase- III : Medical Examination
In the Phase-I examination candidates will be appearing for online examination (CBT) which is scheduled on INTAKE-1 March month and INTAKE-2 September month at one of the examination centre chosen by the candidate. Earlier there was a written examination in place of online examination which used to take place at the selection centres of Indian Air Force.
As we know that there are three options while applying. There are various exam pattern for Air Force X & Y & Both group. The examination pattern of these groups are following-

Marking pattern for Online Test:-
(i) One mark for every correct answer.
(ii) Nil (0) marks for unattempted question.
(iii) 0.25 marks shall be deducted for each wrong answer.
There are few instructions which are very important for all the candidates which are given below-
1. Syllabus ofthe examination will be of 10+2 CBSE Standard.
2. Candidates are to qualify in each paper separately in their respective groups.
3. The result of phase-I examination will be uploaded on www.airmenselection.cdac.in within 15 days from the date of online exams.
Soon after the declaration of the result of Phase-I (Online) Test, a cut off will be applied based on the
marks scored by the candidates in the Phase I Test and SHORTLISTED candidates will be sent a new
admit card on their Registered e-mail ID for phase - II test at an Airmen Selection Centre. This admit card
for phase – II exam can also be downloaded online under candidate’s login on CASB web portal
www.airmenselection.cdac.in. Candidates have to report at the stipulated date and time for Phase – II at
the designated Airmen Selection Centre along required documents.
A). Physical Fitness Test (PFT)
As it is discussed earlier defence forces demands certain level of physical fitness. For ensuring this Indian Air Force has formulated a physical fitness test which is given following-
- 1.6 Km run in 6 minutes 30 seconds,
- 20 squat ups (Uthak-Baithak)
- 10 sit ups
- 10 Push-ups.
Note– PFT will be qualifying only. There are no marks assigned to PFT. Candidates are to qualify this only.
B). Adaptability Test- 1
Adaptability Test-I is basically the test of Situation Reaction ib which takes place just after the PFT if a candidate qualifies PFT. In this test decision making ability, Problem solving attitude, right mind set up is assessed. There will be 45 SRTs which a candidate has to complete within 30 minutes. These SRTs will be objective type and bilingual.
Note– PFT will be qualifying only. There are no marks assigned to PFT. Candidates are to qualify this only.
C). Adaptability Test- 2
Once the candidate clears the Adaptability test-I he goes through the next test which is known as Adaptability test-II which is basically the test of Group discussion. In this discussion a group comprises of some 10-15 candidates who are made to sit in a semi-circle and assigned a topic which is of basic in nature. The topics ranges from current affairs to social events. This test is basically to check the knowledge, communication skill, interpersonal skills and convincing power of the candidate. A little bit of preparation and practice proves very handy for doing well in this test.
After all these above examinations candidates are given green cards with the dates and venue of the medical examination which generally takes place after 2 months.
Medical Examination Test :
Candidates who qualify Adaptability Test-2 (Phase-II) shall be issued with medical appointment letter at respective ASCs. It can also be downloaded under candidates login on CASB web portal www.airmenselection.cdac.in for their medical examination at designated Medical Boarding Centre (MBC) on specified date. Medical Examination shall be conducted by Air Force Medical Team as per IAF medical standards and policy in vogue on subject issue. Medical examination would also include baseline investigation of:-
(a) Blood Haemogram - Hb, TLC, DLC
(b) Urine RE/ME
(c) Biochemistry :- (i) Blood Sugar Fasting & PP (ii) Serum Cholesterol (iii) Urea, Uric acid, Creatinine (iv) LFT—Serum Bilurubin, SGOT, SGPT
(d) X- Ray chest (PA view)
(e) ECG (R)
(f) Tests for Narcotic Drug and Psychotropic Substance Abuse.
(g) Any other test necessary in the opinion of the Medical Officer
General Medical Standards are as follows: –
- Height: Minimum acceptable height is 5 cms.
- Chest: Minimum range of expansion: 5 cm
- Weight: Proportionate to height and age. However, minimum weight of 55 Kg required.
- Corneal Surgery (PRK/LASIK) is not acceptable.
- Hearing: Candidate should have normal hearing i.e. able to hear forced whisper from a distance of 6 meters with each ear separately.
- Dental: Should have healthy gums, good set of teeth and minimum 14 dental points.
- Health: Candidate should be free from medical or surgical deformity. He should be free from all communicable diseases and skin ailments. Candidate must be physically and mentally fit to perform duty in any part of the world, in any climate and terrain.
- Body Tattoo: Permanent body tattoos are not permitted, however tattoos only on inner face of the fore arms (inside of elbow to the wrist), back (dorsal) part of the hand/reverse side of palm and Tribals with tattoos which are as per custom and traditions of their tribes may be considered. However, right to decide on acceptability/ unacceptability of the individual rests with the Selection Centre. Candidates with permanent body tattoos are to submit two photographs (close up and distant view) with details of size and type of the Tattoo.
The recruiting Medical Officer and the specialist doctors of Armed Forces are the final authorities on declaring a candidate fit or unfit during initial medical examination, appeal medical board and medical examination prior to enrolment. The candidate shall be governed by Armed Forces standards which may be at variance from civil standards. There is no provision for representation or review after the appeal medical board.
Note. Candidates are advised to get tartar and stains removed from their teeth before appearing for the medical examination. Ears should be free of wax. Candidates should be prepared to stay for the medical test for four to five days under their own arrangement. No TA/DA shall be admissible. Candidates using corrective glasses must be in possession of prescription from ophthalmologist bearing stamp and registration number and it should not be more than one month old. Passing in the medical examination is not a guarantee for employment in Indian Air Force.
After passing all these above tests Central Airmen Selection Board prepares All India Select List (AISL) based on the marks secured by the candidates in the examination procedure. Those who make their name in the merit list served with the call letter to join for the Joint Basic Phase Training at Belagavi.
General instructions for candidates are as follows:-
(a) Candidates must indicate five choices of examination centre and three choices of ASCs in
order of preference while filling up the online application form. However, Central Airmen Selection
Board reserves the right to allot any centre other than those mentioned in the application.
(b) REQUESTS FOR CHANGE OF EXAMINATION CENTRE OR DATE OF SELECTION TEST
SHALL NOT BE ENTERTAINED.
(c) Candidates not reporting for the test on due date and time shall not be accommodated on
other dates/shifts.
(d) Duplicate / incomplete / erroneously filled applications shall be rejected.
(e) Candidates should be prepared to stay for the entire duration of the tests under their own arrangement. No TA/DA shall be admissible.
(f) Candidates are advised to preserve their e-mail ID and password used while online registration as the same would be required to login for viewing online exam result.
(g) Candidate should apply only once in response to this advertisement.
(h) Candidature of candidates who apply MORE THAN ONCE IN RESPONSE TO THIS ADVERTISEMENT AND OBTAINS different registration numbers for Group ‘X’, Group ‘Y’ or both,
SHALL BE REJECTED.
(j) Mobile phones / smart watches / electronic gadgets shall not be permitted in the examination hall for Phase - 1 test.

WEBPORTAL OF THIS OFFICE FROM TIME TO TIME.)
Tenure & Training. Enrolment shall be for an initial period of 20 years (subject to conditions) which may be extended up to the age of 57 years (subject to service conditions). Initially, candidates shall be sent for a Joint Basic Phase Training (JBPT) at designated Basic Training Institutes located at various Air Force Stations. On successful completion of JBPT, candidates will be allocated trades and sent for trade training of specified durations which shall include security training or any other training as per service requirements. Training is however liable to be terminated at any time if the trainee fails to achieve the required standards in academics, profession, physical fitness and discipline or is found to be medically unfit.
AFTER SUCCESSFUL COMPLETION OF ALL STAGES OF TRAINING, THE AIRMEN SHALL BE DEPLOYED ON JOBS AS PER THEIR ALLOTTED TRADES. ALLOTTED TRADE SHALL NOT BE CHANGED ON CANDIDATE’S REQUEST ON ANY GROUNDS.
Job Specifications. Details of Job specifications of various trades are available on CASB web portal www.airmenselection.cdac.in.
1. Pay & Allowances. During training, a stipend of Rs. 14,600/- per month shall be paid. On completion of training the starting gross emoluments at the minimum of scale of pay including Military Service Pay (MSP), Group ‘X’ Pay {applicable for Group ‘X’ trades only} and Dearness Allowance (DA) will be as follows:-
(a) Group ‘X’ Trades (Except Education Instructor Trade). Rs.33,100/- per month plus Dearness allowance (as applicable) which, in subsequent years, may rise as per the career progression of the individual.
(b) Group ‘Y’ {Except Auto Tech, IAF (P), IAF(S) and Musician} Trades. Rs. 26,900/- per month plus Dearness allowance (as applicable) which, in subsequent years, may rise as per the career progression of the individual.
2. Other Allowances. In addition to the above, various allowances such as Transport Allowance, Composite Personal Maintenance Allowance (CPMA), Leave Ration Allowance (LRA), High Altitude Allowance, Field Area/Modified Field Area Allowance, HRA, Children Education Allowance/ Hostel Subsidy etc., shall also be admissible from time to time as applicable.
3. Perks. Perks such as Ration, Clothing, Medical facilities, accommodation, CSD (Canteen) facilities, Leave (60 days Annual and 30 days Casual in a calendar year as a privilege, subject to service exigencies), Recreational facilities, Transport facility for school going children and Leave Travel Concession (LTC) shall also be provided as per the existing rules. Also, Group Insurance Cover of Rs. 37.5 Lakhs at a premium of Rs. 2300/- per month for all airmen and facility of Group Housing Scheme are also extended.
1. Promotion. Promotion prospects exist up to the rank of Master Warrant Officer (MWO). Opportunities to become a Commissioned Officer also exist for those airmen who qualify the prescribed examinations, later during their service career.
2. Higher Education - Airmen will be permitted to pursue higher education qualification only after acquiring prescribed skill grade in their trade.
How To Fill Indian Airforce Airmen Exam Application Form
Unmarried male Indian and Nepalese candidates can apply online for Indian Air Force Airmen exam. Candidates must check eligibility and standards before filling online form. Provisional Selection List (PSL).
The PSL (merit-wise) will be prepared after the completion of selection test and the same will be displayed at all the airmen selection centres (ASCs) and also on webportal www.airmenselection.cdac.in on 31 October 2020. Inclusion of names of candidates in the PSL depends upon the performance of the candidates in the selection test and the same is determined by application of cut off marks vis-à-vis number of qualified candidates in Phase-II testing and anticipated vacancy. Inclusion of name in provisional select list (PSL) does not guarantee automatic enrolment. Enrolment is strictly in order of merit subject to medical fitness, availability of vacancies, not exceeding the age of 21 years on date of enrolment and meeting all the laid down eligibility criteria as and when
called for enrolment. The validity of the PSL shall be 06 months from the date of display and shall be applicable only for intake- 1 or 2.
Important Guidelines To Fill Application Form-
- Indian Air Force has released online application form on January and July month in a year.
- Interested and eligible candidates can do registration at cdac.in and details are also available at careerindianairforce.cdac.in.
- Candidates have to upload some documents, as applicable, during Airmen selection registration. They are listed below.
- Application fee is Rs 250. Applicant can pay fee using debit card, credit card, net banking, payment gateway, challan at Axis bank.
- Candidate must have a valid email ID, mobile number for registration. Also, keep aadhaar card handy.

- Passport size recently color photograph, must not be older than 15 days.
